VW introduces additional AWD version of the ID.4
VW is expanding the range for the all-electric ID.4 with another all-wheel-drive version. The version called ID.4 Pro 4Motion is based on the ID.4 Pro Performance, but thanks to the second electric motor, it comes with a system output of 195 kW.
Until now, only the top model ID.4 GTX was available with an all-wheel drive. However, the GTX also comes with sportier features. Up to now, there was no all-wheel drive in the standard ID.4 – here, the ID.4 Pro Performance with the well-known 150 kW motor in the rear and the 77 kWh battery formed the most powerful version.
The ID.4 Pro 4Motion also uses the same 150 kW synchronous motor. The second drive unit on the front axle is an asynchronous motor, which has lower drag losses. Its output is up to 80 kW. It is the same drive unit as in the ID.4 GTX, only the system power is limited by the software.
The 195 kW version uses the same battery as the ID.4 GTX. This is indicated by the charging time, which is 36 minutes from five to 80 per cent. The rear-wheel-drive models with 77 kWh use cells from a different supplier despite the same energy content. Since the maximum DC charging power of 135 kW can be maintained longer there, the charging process takes 29 minutes.
The range of the ID.4 Pro 4Motion is 517 kilometres according to WLTP, and VW regulates the top speed at 180 km/h. The standard sprint to 100 km/h is not affected. The standard sprint to 100 km/h is achieved in 6.9 seconds.
According to VW, the all-wheel drive is less about top performance or acceleration and more about additional traction. That is why the Wolfsburg company also emphasises its use as a towing vehicle for smaller transport or boat trailers. With up to 1,400 kilograms at an eight per cent gradient, the ID.4 Pro 4Motion can take 200 kilos more on the hook than the rear-wheel-drive ID.4 Pro Performance.
“With the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION, we are meeting customer wishes and the demand for an additional model with all-wheel drive system,” says Silke Bagschik, Head of Sales and Marketing for the ID. Family. “It is positioned exactly between the efficient and comfortable ID.4 models with rear-wheel drive and the sporty ID.4 GTX 4MOTION flagship model.”
Advance sales for the new all-wheel-drive version start today; prices in Germany start from €49,020 before deduction of the environmental bonus. As this puts the net list price above 40,000 euros, this variant qualifies for the reduced environmental bonus of 7,975 euros until the end of the year. This results in a base price of 41,045 euros.
By way of comparison: the ID.4 Pro Performance is currently listed in the configurator at a minimum of 46,335 euros, the ID.4 GTX is priced at 53,225 euros.
The 195 kW variant of the ID.4 is not a big surprise: the sister models Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 e-tron have already been available to order since June 2021 (Enyaq) and July 2021 (Q4). Audi charges 50,900 euros for the Q4 45 e-tron quattro, while the Skoda Enyaq iV 80x is priced at a flat 47,000 euros.
